About this act:
With the Digital Services Act (DSA), the European Union aims to ensure a safe and trustworthy online environment. Illegal content on the internet is to be combated more efficiently and transparency on internet platforms is to be increased. Since 17 February 2024, comprehensive obligations have therefore been imposed on providers of intermediary services.
The DSA provides for a graduated catalogue of obligations: in addition to general rules applicable to all providers of intermediary services (Articles 11-15 DSA), the obligations are intensified depending on whether the intermediary service qualifies as a hosting service (Articles 16-18 DSA), an online platform (Articles 19-32 DSA) or a very large online platform or very large online search engine (Articles 33-48 DSA). The Regulation is divided into five chapters (Chapter I: General provisions, Chapter II: Liability of providers of intermediary services, Chapter III: Due diligence obligations for a transparent and safe online environment, Chapter IV: Implementation, cooperation, sanctions and enforcement, Chapter V: Final provisions).
